High Potential Talent Visa (UK)

The UK is offering high-potential individuals a visa to attract global talents who have the potential to benefit from the UK workforce.

Applicants who are graduates from top universities in Hong Kong can significantly benefit from the High Potential Talent Visa.

The High Potential Talent Visa is a new immigration route which aims to deliver the UK Government’s commitment in the Plan for Growth to “introduce an elite points-based route to attract the brightest and best to the UK to maintain our(UK) status as a leading international hub for emerging technologies”.

Eligibility requirements

Graduates are not required to have a qualified job offer in the UK from a Home Office-approved sponsor. This routeis open to overseas graduates, preferably those in Hong Kong who have UK vacancies, but is also available tograduates who do not currently have UK job vacancies and simply want to find a job (any job) in the UK. HighPotential Individual visa applicants must be at least 18 years of age, but unlike the Youth Mobility Scheme, there isno upper age limit for High Potential Talent Individual visas. Prospective visa holders are permitted to work in theUK, including self-employment and volunteer work, but are not permitted to engage in professional sports, includingcoaching.

The applicants must first have fulfilled the following conditions:

Have graduated from an eligible international university shortlisted by the UK government within five years before applications.

To pass the security and criminality test.

Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree holders can apply for a short-term work visa, while the PhD holder can apply for a three-year visa.

English language requirements for High potential individual visa

You must be proficient in English to at least the BI intermediate level, having the “fluency to communicate without effort with the native speakers”. To qualify for the High Potential Talent Individual Visa, applicants must be able to understand and communicate in English at the level specified on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale. This means that you can read, Write, Speak and listen at least at level B1(Intermediate). However, there are several ways for high-potential visa applicants to meet their English languagerequirements.

If the applicant is a citizen of the majority of English-speaking countries, they only need to prove their identity andcitizenship to meet the language requirements. If the applicant has a degree in English or has obtained her GCSE,A level or Scottish National Qualification Level 4 or 5 in English from a UK school, they are subject to proof ofrelevant qualifications obtained to satisfy this requirement.

Financial requirement for High Potential Individual Visa.

To be eligible for the High Potential Individual Visa, applicants must demonstrate that they can support themselveson arrival in the UK without recourse to public funds. This means you will need to prove a minimum of £1,270 incash when you apply.

High Potential Talent Individual Visa applicants must demonstrate that they had these funds in their account from 28to 31 days before the date of application. If the applicant is already in the UK and applying to switch to this route, nofunds need to be presented, provided they have been in the UK for at least 12 months.
